In case of emergency, you’ll want to be prepared with a pre-packed kit with the essentials.
Things to include in your emergency kit:
- Enough water in clean sealable plastic containers for all members of the household or workplace for 72 hours
- Candles and matches
- Torches with new batteries
- Battery operated radio
- Extra batteries
- First aid kit
- Heavy rubber gloves
- Masking tape
- Plastic sheeting/ waterproof bags
- Spare house, business and vehicle keys
- Cash/credit cards and key documents including your will, passports, birth/marriage/death certificates, insurance policies, immunisation and medical records and tax and bank details stored in waterproof bags/containers
- Non-perishable food
- Essential medicines, prescription glasses, denture needs, etc.
- Non-electric can-opener
- Warm clothes and sturdy shoes
- Baby needs, e.g. nappies, wet wipes, formula, bottles, medications, etc.
- Pet needs, e.g. food, medication, leash, muzzle, cage, etc.
- Any sentimental items
- Mobile phone (you could also include any easily transportable computer devices such as iPads and small laptops - don't forget extra batteries and portable or mains chargers)

- Business continuity plan
- Evacuation plan
- Building site plan (useful during recovery operations)
- List of employee contact details
- Emergency services contacts
- List of customer and supplier details
- Product lists and specifications
- Latest stock and equipment inventory

- Back-up data on USB and memory sticks or external drives
- Security codes
