Promoting the value of advice for SMEs via networking events

The SME Association of Australia, an association of small and medium enterprises is the peak body and leading voice for small business. It recognises that there are about 2 million small businesses in Australia and they comprise more than 95% of all businesses in Australia. 

CGU and the SME Association of Australia (SMEA) have been working together for over a year to help Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to simplify their business needs. With over 27,000 members nationally, it is the leading voice for small business in this country.

The SMEA provides membership services, and forms strategic alliances and affiliations with businesses, organisations, education providers and government to help equip SMEs with what they need to connect and grow.

In September, CGU sponsored the SMEA Networking events held in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. State Manager in NSW, Peter Oakman presented at the Melbourne event.

The first part of the event covered a general update on the CGU/SMEA partnership and what is available to members now and in the future. The importance of risk management for SMEs and the significance of dealing with a broker to protect their businesses were also covered. 

According to statistics, 90% of businesses which suffer a major loss will become bankrupt within five years. It’s important for SMEs to realise that some risks are insurable and that CGU risk partners can help to manage these risks giving business owners piece of mind to ensure that SMEs are more resilient and are able to recover given such circumstances.
