Held at the stylish QT in Sydney, the event was hosted by Georgina Robinson, Chief Rugby Reporter, Sydney Morning Herald. Georgina conducted an insightful and lively interview with Cheika, covering many of his career highlights. Growing up in working class Coogee, Cheika has played rugby, coached on the international stage, worked for Collette Dinnigan and owned his own fashion label. Presently he is juggling dual roles as coach of the NSW Waratahs and Australian Wallabies.
During the session, Cheika shared at times it had been a challenge juggling his two coaching roles, but highlighted the importance of knowing when to step back to let your peers take the lead. In appointing Darryl Gibson as Head Coach of the Waratahs from 2016, Cheika has done what he can to establish a positive foundation, which Darryl will continue to evolve with his own style.
Looking toward the World Cup, Cheika spoke of the importance of building a strong Wallabies team, acknowledging the challenge of bringing together players who compete against each other for the months in the lead up to the international competition. Throughout the year, Cheika has brought the Wallabies together to share a meal in order to build trust and acknowledge the individual strengths they can each bring to the Australian side.
At the end of the event, the door prize was drawn with Harry Georgoulas, Chief Operating Officer, Steadfast taking home a framed Waratahs jersey signed by the 2015 team.
