CGU Football Friday - Round 8

ROUND 7 - Who will you tip this week?

Welcome back to CGU's Football Friday blog for another week of our expert tips.

Round 8 kicks off at 7:50PM AEST tonight between Adelaide Crows and Geelong Cats at the Adelaide Oval, so remember to login and submit your tips before the first bounce!

The highlight games this weekend are looking to be Fridays Adelaide Crows v Geelong Cats clash and Richmond v Sydney Swans on Saturday night at the MCG.

Here is what our expert tippers have to say:

Adelaide Crows vs. Geelong Cats

This game is potentially one of the most highly-anticipated matches of the 2016 AFL season.

Patrick Dangerfield will face the club with whom he won their best-and-fairest last year and played over 150 games.

It won’t, however, be the first time Dangerfield returns to Adelaide with the Cats, with the club having already played there back in Round 5 when they faced, and defeated, Port Adelaide by 48 points.

Dangerfield has had a great start to the season in his new colours, proving instrumental to the club’s 6-1 start to the season with the Cats only loss coming against the GWS Giants back in Round 2.

In contrast, Adelaide Crows have dropped to 4-3 this season, following their controversial 15-point loss to the Western Bulldogs, in which they were trashed in the free-kick count, winning just 12 free kicks as opposed to the Dogs 28.

The Crows will be out to stop Dangerfield from guiding his new side to victory this Friday night, in what is expected to be a sell-out crowd at the Adelaide Oval.

Prediction: 4/6 of our tipsters are going with Geelong for the win

Richmond vs. Sydney Swans

Saturday nights match at the MCG is a big one for Richmond who have had a disappointing start to the season. They’re currently sitting 15th on the ladder, without a win since defeating Carlton by just nine points on the opening night of the season.

Many have suggested that their heartbreaking Round 2 loss against Collingwood may have triggered the form slump, but so too has an injury toll which has seen Dylan Grimes, Brett Deledio and Captain Trent Cotchin, among others, sidelined.

In contrast, all is going well at the Sydney Swans who sit third on the ladder with just the one loss for the season, a ten-point loss to the Adelaide Crows in round four.

After missing last year’s finals series to deal with personal issues, Sydney’s Buddy Franklin has bounced back, leading the Coleman Medal tally with 29 majors for the season, including a haul of six against Essendon last week.

That being said, Sydney will still be wary of a Richmond as they not only regain Cotchin and Rance this Saturday night, but have also won their last two matches against the Swans.

Prediction: Once again 4/6 of our tipsters are going with Sydney to take the points in this one

The pressure will also be on Collingwood and our CGU expert tipster Steele Sidebottom once again this weekend as Collingwood take on the Brisbane Lions this Saturday at the Gabba. It will be the clash of the General Insurers with CGU sponsoring Collingwood and Vero being the major partner for the Brisbane Lions.

It will be a tough one for Collingwood, although we wish them best this weekend and hope they can come home with a win!

Remember to submit your tips this weekend and good luck for the round!
