CGU Football Friday – Round 12

CGU Football Friday – Round 12

ROUND 12 - Need help picking a winner in Round 12?

Welcome back to CGU’s Football Friday blog for another week of our expert tips.

Round 12 kicks off at 7:50PM AEST tonight between Essendon and Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium, so remember to login and submit your tips before the first bounce!

Last week saw high scores all round with most of our expert tipsters scoring 8 and Rodney walking away with a perfect score. Round 12 is a stark comparison, with this week looking much harder to tip.

Apart from tonight’s clash between the reigning premiers Hawthorn and the ill fated Bombers, every single game could go either way.

Port Adelaide vs. Western Bulldogs

Port Adelaide are not currently in the top eight, although they’re certainly contenders sitting at 9th on the ladder. Port are looking to be the most likely club outside the top eight to make a charge at the finals. Working in their favour this weekend is the home ground advantage, although they’re yet to beat any of the current top-eight sides this season.

In contrast the Dogs who currently sit 4th on the ladder, and will rely on their renowned defence to shut down the Power, who they haven’t beaten in their past two trips to Adelaide Oval. If Western Bulldogs continue to play a keepings-off style game as they have in recent times, Adelaide might lack the opportunities they need to win.

Prediction: 4/6 are tipping Western Bulldogs to come home with the win

Geelong Cats vs. North Melbourne

This is looking to be the match of the round between the top Kangaroos and a third-placed Geelong Cats. Geelong will lose Tom Hawkins this week after accepting a one-match suspension for his jab to the chin of GWS co-captain Phil Davis last weekend. This suspension should give North a little boost, although it also gives Geelong a chance to experiment and change their game plan this weekend which could possibly turn their disadvantage into an advantage.

The midfield will prove critical, with both clubs boasting battle-hardened stars, through the pairing of Joel Selwood, who leads the league for clearances, and Patrick Dangerfield giving the Cats an edge.

Prediction: Our expert tipsters are going with North Melbourne for the win

West Coast vs. Adelaide

This is looking to be the hardest game of the round to tip. West Coast are currently sitting at 7th on the ladder, and are finally getting a chance to play a top eight side at home, which as we mentioned last week has yet to happen so far this season.

West Coast have struggled with their midfield against a lot of the top eight sides so far this season, although Adelaide are about level with the Eagles in the midfield stakes. Both sides are also on level premiership points, so it will be a very important game for both sides.

Prediction: No one is too confident with their choice on this one, although 4/6 expert tippers are going with West Coast for the home ground advantage.

GWS Giants vs. Sydney Swans

GWS Giants vs. Sydney Swans is looking like another difficult match to tip. The Swans are sitting at second place with 2 wins over the sixth placed GWS Giants, whose top-four aspirations hinge on matches such as this.

The last time these cross-town rivals went head-to-head was at the SCG in Round 3 with Sydney comfortably taking home the four points. Sydney are the more mature side and that might prove the decisive factor here, although the Giants will be hungry for a win after two losses on the road.

Prediction: Our tipsters are split 50/50

Melbourne vs. Collingwood

The Queen’s birthday holiday fixture sees Collingwood take on Melbourne at the MCG this Monday. Melbourne have won their last two games against Collingwood and seem to be taking in the better midfield to this match.

Therefore Collingwood will have to rely on the consistent excellence of key players such as Scott Pendlebury and CGU expert tipster Steele Sidebottom if they want to get this game over the line.

Prediction: Proving that it’s a difficult round to tip, our tipsters are once again split 50/50

Remember to submit your tips this weekend and good luck for the round!
