CGU Insurance last night won ‘Large General Insurance Company of the Year’ at the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) 2015 Australian Insurance Industry Awards in Sydney.
CGU beat Allianz and QBE to take the prize which recognises general insurance companies with annual GWP of over $600 million that have demonstrated strong performance and outstanding service for their customers in Australia.
IAG Commercial Insurance Chief Executive Ben Bessell collected the award in Sydney on behalf of CGU, which forms part of IAG Commercial Insurance.
Mr Bessell said he was proud that CGU had won the award which celebrates best practice and high achievement in the insurance industry.
“I’m absolutely delighted for everyone here at CGU and for everyone who has worked so hard at this great business to get where we are today,” he said.
“This is not just one year’s work; it’s the culmination of a hugely successful business transformation to build on CGU’s long history in the Australian general insurance market.”
Mr Bessell said it was also particularly rewarding to win the award in a year that has been relatively tough in insurance markets and with the major changes CGU has undertaken during this time, such as successfully integrating the Lumley business.
“To win this year is an enormous credit to our people who have continued to exceed expectations and deliver for our partners and customers in all the areas that matter. From my perspective, winning this award reinforces my firm belief we are on the right track at CGU.”
CGU’s parent company Insurance Australia Group (IAG) had further success at the ANZIIF awards last night, with IAG taking out the ‘Women’s Employer of the Year’ award and Mike Wilkins, IAG’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, recognised as ‘Insurance Leader of the Year’.
The ANZIIF award adds to CGU being named Insurance Business ‘2015 Insurer of the Year’ in the magazine’s annual insurance broker survey.
