On Sunday 22 May, over 1000 people headed down to the Tan Running Track in Melbourne to show their support for inclusivity and equality of the LGBTIQ community in sport and in life.
The inaugural Move In May fun run, sponsored by CGU, was Australia’s first fun run designed to promote equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) community.
Donna Walker, Executive General Manager, Broker Business, expressed how proud we are as a company to be a part of such an important event and publically stand up for equality and inclusion.
“If we can create a working environment that encourages people to be their whole selves at work, we will have a far greater opportunity to attract and broaden our talent pool and tap into the richness of perspective and experience that comes from a diverse workforce,” explained Donna.
“The people that work with us should truly reflect the communities where we live and work. If we can achieve this, we will bring so much more creativity and diversity of experience into the workplace and be better placed to take advantage of future business opportunities.”
“Inclusion unlocks the value of diversity and breaks down barriers to full participation. CGU’s support of Move in May is another way we are demonstrating our commitment to inclusion through actions – not just words.”
The event was a success with over a thousand people taking part by walking or running around the track. AFL footy heroes including Luke Ball, Tyson Goldsack, Chris Judd and Matt Spangher lined the track, cheering people on and giving them high-fives as they ran by.
The fun run was followed by a post event celebration where there was face painting, food trucks, a DJ and live band.
Thank you to everyone who got involved and helped to make it a special day.Photos
