CGU is pleased to offer a pilot mentoring program to support the growth and development of Indigenous Small to Medium Enterprises. SME’s need a wide range of skills and mentoring can help support Indigenous SME’s to achieve business success.

The mentoring program offers Indigenous SME business owners and leaders a unique professional development opportunity to work one-on-one with an experienced CGU executive. CGU mentors will draw on their experience as leaders in business to provide confidential advice and support.

The CGU Kayku Kimpa Mentoring Program is specifically designed to assist with business growth, resilience and sustainability.


This can include:

  • Navigating through COVID-19 challenges
  • Business basics and planning
  • Accessing expert knowledge and skills
  • Market knowledge and trends to inform strategy
  • People processes, including recruiting, managing and retaining staff
  • Surviving the period between start-up and growth
  • Effectively dealing with clients and external stakeholders
  • Locking in reliable contracts
  • Managing the demands of being an owner-operator e.g. growing the business while running it
  • Assisting with business “pitch”
  • Accessing networks


Program includes:

  • 1-2 hour monthly virtual meetings with your mentor
  • Interview to discuss mentees’ goals and business challenges
  • Strategic matching process of mentees with CGU mentors
  • Virtual launch event including an interactive workshop and resources for mentors and mentees to maximise the effectiveness of the program
  • One2one online guided platform to support participants through the mentoring journey
  • Ongoing communication and support to ensure successful mentoring relationships
  • Formal program evaluations
  • Program delivered virtually


Key dates:

  • Applications close 17 June 2020
  • Mentee interviews June/July 2020
  • Online introductions of mentoring partnerships July 2020
  • Virtual program launch & interactive workshop August 2020
  • Conclusion February 2021

  • Indigenous-owned Small to Medium Enterprises
  • Business age: 3+ years
  • Turnover $50K-$500K (pre-COVID-19)
  • Location: anywhere in Australia
  • Industry: any
  • Must have internet access
