The Important Lock-Out
The AFL season is upon us and the time has come for us to set our AFL Fantasy teams for round one. This week, we are confronted by a ‘Partial Lock-out’. This occurs on Thursday night at 7:20pm AEDT for the Richmond and Carlton game at the MCG. This means, all players from this game will be ‘locked’ into your team and can not be moved until Fantasy opens the following week. This includes any captains, vice captains and emergencies, you may have selected for these Richmond and Carlton players.
All other players in your team will remain ‘active’ and can be moved and traded until ‘Full lock-out’ which occurs at the start of the Melbourne and Gold Coast game, 1:40pm AEDT Saturday. From this moment, you just sit back and relax and watch your team accumulate big scores as the weekend unfolds. Well, that’s the plan anyway.
Top Starting Picks
Make sure you have Adelaide’s Cam Ellis-Yolem (MID, $120,000). “Yo-Man” was exceptional over the NAB Challenge and with Brad Crouch out injured for the next 6-8 weeks, this guy will be one of the best money makers from day one.
Defenders are hard to find, and this makes Adam Saad (DEF/MID, $120,000) a must have in your backline along with Essendon’s ruckman Tom Bellchambers (RUC/FWD, $281,000). With the departure of Patrick Ryder from the club, the door has opened for Bellchambers to take over as the #1 ruckman at Essendon. He’s cheap and should return to his 80+ average like he has achieved in the past.
Not only has our very own Steele Sidebottom (MID, $612,000) selected himself after his outstanding 2014 season, he’s also backed in his ever reliable captain, Scott Pendlebury (MID, $614,000) who has averaged 105+ over the last five years. Both of these guys are always quality picks.
He has also snuck in another team mate by the name of Adam Oxley (DEF, $142,000). Oxley has had a great NAB campaign and should be named in round one, proving himself a top option on your bench in the back line.
Selecting a captain in your Fantasy team will score that player double points. Steele has gone for Lance Franklin (FWD, $536,000), but my top pick this week is no surprise. Tom Rockliff (MID, $736,000) averaged 135 last year and meets the Pies in the opening round, a team he scored 165 against last year. Add to this the fact he averaged 142 at the GABBA in 2014 and you have yourself a very worthy captain. I also like Luke Parker (MID, $585,000) this week who has been in great form over the NAB Challenge. He scored 114 and 119 against the Bombers last year and should dominate again. Rounding out my top three is Nathan Fyfe (MID, $579,000) who had his season best score of 130 when he met the Power last year and will be unstoppable.
All the best for the opening round!
