Reporting An Injury

How do I report an injury and lodge a claim?

What should I do when an injury occurs?

  • ensure your employee receives appropriate medical treatment immediately
  • notify CGU within 48 hours of becoming aware of an injury in your workplace. The earlier you notify us, the sooner we can assist in coordinating an appropriate treatment plan. This gives your injured employee the best chance of a fast recovery, and the ability to return to work as soon as possible.

Initial notification of injury

Providing initial notification of an injury couldn't be easier with CGU's .Live initial notification of injury system. If you're new to online notification you can access a demonstration and quick reference guide or speak with you CGU Account Manager.

You can also notify us of an injury via emailfax or posting an early notification of injury form.

Claims excess

Employers have their claims excess waived (the equivalent of one week of an employee’s weekly compensation) if they report an injury to CGU within five days of becoming aware of it.

How do I lodge a claim?

You must complete, sign and date a Notification of Injury form and send with a medical certificate obtained from your employee to CGU Workers Compensation.

What should I do following an injury?

  • it’s important that you investigate the incident and identify a solution to ensure a similar injury doesn’t occur again. This should become part of organisational injury management system
  • if your employee is unable to immediately return to their pre-injury role, identify suitable duties that you may be able to provide within your workplace.
