OHS Representatives and OHS Committee Members - NSW

This course provides an introduction to key practices and principles to assist Health and Safety Representatives in their role in reducing incidents, injury, and illness in the workplace.

Learn about relevant legislation and key principles which enable Health and Safety Representatives to perform their role. Training is approved by each state’s statutory authority for workplace safety.

CGU offers both initial level OHS Health and Safety Representative training and a refresher course for those already in the role.

Who should attend?

Occupational Health and Safety Representatives and Health and Safety Committee Members who have not previously attended approved Representatives training.

This course is designed to develop the OHS knowledge and skills required of a safety representative or committee member. With learning outcomes approved by the relevant state's OHS authority, attendance at the course meets the requirement for training in accordance with OHS legislation.

What topics are covered?

  • OHS legislation
  • Consultation and communication
  • OHS risk management including:
    • the identification of hazards and assess risk
    • recommended controls
  • The representative function within an OHS management system
  • OHS issue resolution
  • Incident reporting and investigation

What do I receive?

Participants who successfully complete the course receive a certificate, approved by the state’s OHS authority, confirming their attendance.

There is an option to enrol in a nationally recognised qualification, Certificate III Occupational Health and Safety (BSB30707)¹. This option requires both attendance at the course and completion of additional project work.
